about HFS > governance & future goals

HFS is under the care of the Haddonfield Monthly Meeting of the
Religious Society of Friends. A fifteen-member School Committee
is appointed by the Meeting for the oversight of the school; this
School Committee meets five times a year, along with representatives
of the administration, the staff, and the PTO to set and review
school policy as well as to make decisions regarding issues beyond
the day-to-day operation of the school.
Reports and recommendations are brought to the full School Committee
meetings by the clerks of its five standing sub-committees: Finance
and Property, Board/Staff Resources, Quaker Life, Development, and Financial Aid.
In all of these
meetings, decisions are made on the basis of consensus rather than
votes.
This past year, the School Committee led a group of parents and teachers in meetings to consider long range strategic plans for Haddonfield Friends School. Our preliminary discussions identified the following areas of focus:
enhancing the appearance of the physical plant,
supporting professional development,
improving teachers salaries and benefits,
augmenting our outreach and image in the local community,
reviewing curriculum.
All attendees, including parents and teachers, provided valuable input on long range goals, which will help us prioritize our development plans.
