believe that successful students are those who realize their own
worth and the worth of those around them, and recognition of this
belief is a guiding factor throughout the social studies program.
Basic socialization skills such as learning to be sensitive to the
needs of others, learning to verbalize feelings, and learning how
to resolve conflicts are underlying goals.
The social studies curriculum focuses first on the self and then
broadens to include the family, community, state, and world. All
classes take field trips to reinforce and enrich their studies.
For example, sixth graders and their parents tour the United Nations
in New York City in October each year as a part of their study of
world cultures and countries.
